Formation of sea wave

I used plaster on the formation of sea wave.
I wrinkled aluminum foil, and reached out it once again. The next, I put the frame to it.
I confirmed the position, by putting the paper pattern in a while ago in the top.
I poured plaster into the frame. Furthermore, I interwove the gauze with the inside, to increase strength.
When it passes about 30 minutes, plaster hardens. I remove plaster to recently from the frame. It is necessary about 3 days to the complete hardening of plaster.

I molded the wave frame to surrounding part of the models with epoxy putty.
The part of the bow was not molded yet, because the form of the wave differs.

As for the white-crested waves of bow part, the top part is easy to hang with weight. First of all, I molded 2/ 3 of height in the whole. After that hardens secondly, I molded 1/ 3 of height.

The wave that was cut with the bow is spreading to the fan shape toward the outside in the ship's side. I drew the draft of wave in the base surface and molded by putting epoxy putty on it. As for the molding of the wave this part is most. Epoxy putty becomes weak stick, when hardening begins. For the reason, epoxy putty may be good to use little by little. If we do it so, we will be able to use epoxy putty efficiently.
Epoxy putty is added on it, because the wave 1 block was completed.

I molded the wave of CV AKAGI next. I molded it attentively it does not become the same form as KAGA.
Molding of the wake

I put thinner putty to the part of stern thickly, and molded the wake by poking it with toothpicks. After thinner putty hardens, the surface becomes rough. I painted the thinner to it thinly. The wake will become a soft image by melting a little of the surface, if it does so.
the base is growing yellowish. This is the marks that failed by using polyester putty.
I touched up the difference in level between the wave root and base by putting Liquid putty. The liquid putty is “Mr. SURFACER 500“ made of GSI Creos Co.

Next, I coated surface primer. Then, denting and Joint marks, fingerprints etc become easy to be confirmed. I touched up these parts furthermore minutely with liquid putty.

Foundation coating

I sprayed “BASE WHITE“ in order that the paint colors become vivid.
“BASE WHITE“ is the strong white color of foundation concealment power, and it is strong viscosity like surface primer. If this color is sprayed too much the sharpness of the corners will disappear. Let's pay attention to operation.

Painting of sea
An ocean base has difficult problem. The liquid like the sea is best to be made by liquid material. But reality is not possible like it. We must make the sea base with solid material. The case that softness of water is molded by hard material is difficult. Therefore, painting is the important point of sea base build.
The color that was used

I used Loquitex acrylic soft type color. Loquitex can express the moist color taste that has profundity. The color that was used is 3 color of “Titanium White“, “Phthalocyanine Blue“ and “Emerald Green“.
Process of sea painting

I used a hand brush and didn't use an air brush. Hand brush is suited to paint the sea. because it is easy to paint a delicate and deep touch. Airbrush is suited to paint a flat touch.
Process 1
I painted the color that blended “Phthalocyanine Blue“ and “Emerald Green“ on the base surface. I expressed current rip by painting the uneven color on it purposely and expressed deep navy blue by painting repeatedly.
Process 4
From here, this is the process of wave painting.
I painted on the wave surface with brighter color than the color of the sea by dry-brush technique.
Process 5
I painted the wave surface with more bright color than “Process 5“ by dry-brush technique. I made four kinds color for dry-brush in this time.
Process 6
Last, I painted “titanium white“on the brim of wave mainly by dry-brush technique. White color quantity is changed each wave size. That is the hang of wave painting.
Process 7
Loquitex color has a strong mat effect. Because dry brush technique was conducted plentifully mat effect became excessive. I touched up the root and blue hollow of wave with gross clear color. I gave a gradation to gloss tone in addition effect to color tone.
Painting was finished
Last, I dug the screw hole for model fixation in the base. Although It is excessive expression, I think that I could express The open sea which is getting rough.
The materials

Base
I chose the lumber of the sun tree for the base. The reason, It is beautiful, be not warping. I think that you had better not choose the plywood board. It is warping and not a parallel. It is not matching as the base.
Frame
I chose the lumber that the corner is processed roundly. I cut the edge to 45 degrees.
Coat the wooden frame with varnish

Process 1
I polished the wooden frame with sandpaper and coated it with varnish on 4 layers.
Process 4
I repeated those process of 1 to 3 about 4 times. The wooden frame become deep color by being repeated. It finished to be coated on the surface with wax.

Ocean base, wooden base and wooden frame, Each part were glued with the glue for wood. The opening between the frame was modified by burying with epoxy putty.

The part of plaster base that ship model is attached is rough. I attached the cushion of soft paper to the part.
Making of the clear case

I made the cover case with clear acrylic board. This acrylic board is the type for the open air. This type is stout. It is difficult to get damaged and be clouded.
